Baby Doll
a baby doll for the baby. and one for her cousin. (since they are only seven weeks apart.)
the velour was a little tricky for me to work with on this size doll. she measures just under 12 inches.
but oh, how i love their sweet faces!

Dinner
it's been awhile. i'll bet you are famished! (i was supposed to post these pictures before thanksgiving. it just goes to show that i am busy making, right?)
my boy, isaac, loves chicken legs. hopefully, even the crocheted variety.
the patterns are from the book tasty crochet by rose langlitz. i also put it on ravelry.

Birthday PowWow
they were supposed to turn out like these cupcakes. they did not.
probably because after i demolished all but four sugar cones, and then having those four sugar cones topple over in the oven, i was done. so they turned out like this:
luckily, the headbands turned out.
and the rock painting.
happy birthday, my brave.

Fall Break Painting
remind me that when i get the idea to let my children help me paint something in our home i need to:
1. not think i can paint at the same time
2. not answer the phone and talk to my sister
i decided to paint a wall last week while the childs were home for fall break. the inspiration for the workroom is this photo. i am loving yellow.

Solid Granny Square Pattern
this project is kind of a make-up-as-i-go-along sort of thing. so i'm not quite sure on the yardage just yet. or the exact number of solid squares i will be crocheting (right now, i'm figuring 126 solids). my intent is to make up a formal pattern when i'm completely finished. my pictures show a left-hand view.
size j crochet hook
worsted weight yarn ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitchsp = space
here's how i crochet them (and i will warn you this could get messy):
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 2 dc in ring, [ch 2, work 3 dc in ring] 3 times, ch 2. Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as last dc and ch 1 sp for this round), [in next ch 2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1)] 3 times for three corners. In last ch 2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). Join with sl st in the third ch of the beg ch 4.
Round 3: Ch 3, in ch 1 sp work 2 dc, ch 1. [In the next ch 2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) ch 1, work 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1] 3 times for three corners. In last ch 2 sp work (3 dc, ch2, 3 dc) ch 1. Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Fasten off.

Granny Squares
i'm starting a new project. this one may take awhile.
i'm planning on making enough granny squares for an afghan. not all white though. some of them will have color.

Lakeshore
we took a little trip to the lake today. (or the ocean or the pond.)
we went looking for driftwood. so that we could paint it.
it was a great end-of-september day.
inspired by this photo.

Wood Gathering
our wood pile is growing.
after a few truckloads and a couple of failed attempts, we're hoping to stay nice and cozy this winter.
p.s. i was reading designmom today, and a sentence from this post jumped off the page, right into my heart.
"sometimes, all you need is a person to bounce ideas off and respond with confidence."

Fingernail Fun
we've been collecting nail art as of late. and the resident twelve year old is painting up a storm!
aryn found a fun site on youtube with lots of tutorials. she even talked me into letting her paint my toenails... after watching this one:
we didn't have the orange color, so she used purple. it didn't quite turn out like the video, but i think she had fun practicing!

Sometimes
sometimes... when the house is full, i like to go outside. to be by myself.
to think and to water the garden.
sometimes... that doesn't last very long.

Wild Turkeys
these are the wild turkeys that have been roaming our neighborhood.
early in the morning, we usually get to see them in the horse field on the way to school. later we see them running through the different neighbors' yards.
it is such an unexpected treat to see. (this is the first year since we've lived here that we've seen the turkeys.)
i think it's a mommy with nine not-so-little babies. it causes me to reflect on my own five wild turkeys!
and i just want to share a wonderful blog i've been reading since april...Schlitzohren. i love her beautiful style.
